Worcester Regional Transit Authority Advisory Board seeking Disability Population Rider Representative

Worcester, MA — The Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) Advisory Board is currently looking to fill the position of Disabled Commuter Population* Representative. This position is appointed by the town/city in which the representative resides. This representative shall be mobility impaired, have a family member who is mobility impaired, be a caretaker of a person who is mobility impaired, or work for an organization that serves the needs of the physically disabled and live in one of the WRTA’s 37 Communities.

The Disabled Commuter Rep. must be a resident of one of the thirteen communities served by WRTA Fixed Route and will:

• Hold a volunteer position with a one-year term commitment, beginning January 1, 2025.

• Attend the monthly WRTA Board Meetings on Third Thursday of every month at 8:00 a.m. via Zoom Webinar.

• Vote on board-related business

The Disabled Commuter Rider is selected through the appointment process of the town/city in which they reside. The position is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The date of the response will determine which appointee fills the vacancy. All other applicants will be placed in a queue for consideration and selected in the order of which their application was received. Please note that the Disabled Commuter Rider position cannot be filled by the same town/city that currently has the Rider’s Rep. position. Applicants from communities that have not previously served in the position are given preference.

To apply, interested candidates should contact the local municipality in which they reside. Once appointed, you will be asked to provide a completed “Conflict of Interest Law” certificate. A record of your phone number and mailing address will also be required to receive monthly meeting invitations and board-related business. Please note that your name and address will be posted on the WRTA website.

The Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) is a regional transit system that services the City of Worcester and the surrounding 36 communities in the Central Massachusetts area with a bus fleet that includes diesel-electric hybrid buses, and clean-diesel buses. The second largest regional transit authority in Massachusetts, the WRTA offers reliable, comfortable, and safe transportation for traveling to work, shopping, school, medical appointments, and leisure activities. The WRTA also provides paratransit service for the elderly and disabled, as well as a variety of special services for those groups in the entire service area. All fixed routes and paratransit services are free through June 2025.
