What is a Stop ID?
A Stop ID is the unique number assigned to a WRTA bus stop.
Where can I find my Stop ID?
Stop ID numbers are available on newly branded bus stop signs, Google Maps, the Transit app, and the WRTA Bus Tracker. To find a Stop ID: Hover over the stop you’re looking for and look for the number labeled “Stop Code” or “Stop ID.” If your stop still has an older sign, you may need to use another source to find your Stop ID. Customer Service Representatives are also able to provide you with your Stop ID number.
My sign has an old QR code. What am I supposed to do?
You won’t be able to scan the QR, but the Stop ID remains the same. Look for the Stop ID number on the top of the subplate sign and text WRTA [insert stop id] to 22827.
Do I need to download an app?
No. The text-to-track system works through your phone’s text messaging service.
Do I need access to a new WRTA bus stop sign?
No. If you know your Stop ID, you can use the text-to-track system even if your bus stop still has an older sign.
I am seeing a different phone number to text on old signage, why is that?
WRTA is transitioning to a new text-to-track system, so some information on older bus stop signs is no longer active. During the transition, you may see older signs with the previous phone number alongside new signs with updated information.
You don’t need to wait for a new sign to use the new system. If you already know your Stop ID, you can use the new text-to-track system now. Updated bus stop signs will be installed throughout the WRTA service area in phases over the coming months.
Why is WRTA changing the text-to-track system?
The new text-to-track system is part of technology updates WRTA implemented in 2026 and provides updated tools for tracking your bus. Because new signs are being installed in phases, it will take time for all bus stop signs to be updated.
During this transition, you may see a combination of older and newer bus stop signs throughout the WRTA service area.
