Central Hub Lobby Renovation Project

Construction of the Central Hub Lobby Renovation is scheduled to begin on January 5, 2026. This project will significantly enhance the customer experience by increasing seating capacity, creating dedicated space for individuals using mobility devices, and establishing a customer service office with an exterior walk-up window to provide quicker, more convenient assistance. The design also includes a designated security office, ADA intake area, and additional office space.

In addition, the new layout will allow the restrooms to be reopened with an airport-style, open-access design.

Progress was delayed in late winter of FY25 due to uncertainty surrounding the federal funding portion of the project. As construction will occur during the winter months, WRTA is exploring ways to mitigate cold weather impacts and ensure customers can remain warm and comfortable.

Below are the renderings and drawings outlining the planned layout and design.

Rendering of a bright, modern transit lobby with large floor-to-ceiling windows, rows of connected gray seats along the perimeter, and a few people standing or walking through the space. Sunlight casts long shadows across the floor, and a small plant sits near the entrance.

Rendering of the redesigned transit lobby showing multiple rows of gray seating arranged in parallel lines. Tall windows line the left side, allowing natural light to fill the space. A wood-paneled wall with a digital display is visible at the far end.
