Summary:
This position will assist with conducting training sessions to assist older adults, persons with mobility impairments, intellectual disabilities, and other populations to access fixed-route public transportation. Training sessions will be designed for small groups and individuals, with initial focus on conducting individualized one-on-one training sessions. The Travel Trainer will also be responsible for utilizing all documentation systems, including the initial interview and application process, needs assessments, training plans, program and client progress, training certifications, follow-up, and all other related documentation.
Must be able to work with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and adapt to the changing needs of the position as program development and implementation progresses.
Starting Salary Range: $47,000-53,000
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Position Reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications
- Provide direct travel training and community/safety education programs for individuals and groups that include older adults, persons with mobility impairments, intellectual disabilities, and other populations;
- Develop and implement individualized transportation plans and mobility instruction curriculum for travel training participants;
- Training to include education with identified individuals on reading bus route schedules and assisting with identification of the routes they can use to get to medical appointments, shopping or other needs of the individual.
- Complete intake and assessment of consumer to determine eligibility for travel training;
- Maintain all related documentation, reporting and filing systems;
- Support public outreach and marketing activities, at various community events;
- Work with and regularly communicate with other WRTA Travel Trainer(s)
- Perform other duties as assigned;
Educational and Other Requirements:
- Preferred qualifications: Bilingual Spanish, and possess a minimum of 3 years of experience working with older adults and persons with disabilities. At least one-year experience working with older adults and with persons with disabilities in community education programs is preferred;
- Proficient with Microsoft office programs
- Must possess analytical skills and evaluation techniques
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
- Ability to manage multiple projects with close attention to detail
- Able to attend trainings and seminars pertinent to transit
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions, and walking for extended periods of time on often irregular surfaces and terrain. The Travel Trainer spends a significant portion of their job onboard WRTA vehicles. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may amplify.
